Wolfgang Doehm

Wolfgang Theodor Doehm (born December 31, 1934 - † December 16, 2010 ) was a German engraver and medalist .

Doehm began his training as a relief engraver in 1951, which he completed in 1965 with a master's degree. Until 1985 he worked at the State Mint in Stuttgart , where he made designs and stamps for medals and coins. From 1971 he also took part in competitions for currency and commemorative coins .

His best-known work is the 5 DM coin , introduced in 1975 , which was originally designed in a square-oval version. Other implemented designs by Doehm are the 10-mark commemorative coin for the 250th birthday of Johann Gottfried Herder from 1994, and the 100-euro commemorative coin for the UNESCO World Heritage Site Goslar from 2008. He was also involved in the design of the Staufer Medal .
