There's a Place ( English There is a place ) is a song by British band The Beatles , the 1963 second to last song (page 2) on their first album Please Please Me was released. It was composed by John Lennon and Paul McCartney and published under the author's name ' Lennon / McCartney '.

John Lennon and Paul McCartney composed the song in McCartney's childhood home at 20 Forthlin Road in Liverpool . There's a Place was inspired by the song Somewhere from the soundtrack album West Side Story , which McCartney owned. The song Somewhere contains the line There's a place for us . Another inspiration for John Lennon was trying to write a Motown- style song .

Ten of the fourteen songs of the first Beatle album Please Please Me recorded the band on February 11, 1963 in London's Abbey Road Studios (Studio 2) - including There's a Place . The producer was George Martin , assisted by sound engineer Norman Smith . The band recorded a total of ten takes between 10:45 and 11:30 a.m. It was the first song of the session that was recorded. In the afternoons, between 3:45 and 5 p.m., John Lennon recorded his harmonica accompaniment . George Martin spent February 25, 1963, without the Beatles, mixing the recordings in mono and stereo .

US -American B-side of the single Twist and Shout

On March 22, 1963, There's a Place appeared on the Beatles' first album Please Please Me in the UK .

On July 12, 1963, There's a Place appeared on the EP Twist and Shout in Great Britain and reached number 4 on the charts.

In the US, There's a Place was first released on January 10, 1964 on the local debut album Introducing… The Beatles .

On March 2, 1964, the single Twist and Shout / There's a Place was released in the USA , with the A-side reaching number 2 in the US charts. The B-side was placed there separately at number 74.

The Beatles recorded three more live versions of There's a Place for BBC Radio , including the recording on August 1, 1963 at the BBC Playhouse Theater in London on the album On Air - Live at the BBC Volume 2 on November 8, 2013 appeared.

On December 17, 2013, the album The Beatles Bootleg Recordings 1963 was released on which three studio versions (Take 5 & 6, 8 and 9) of the song There's a Place are.
