From Me to You ( english From me to you ) is a song by British band The Beatles , which on 11 April 1963 in the UK as the third single was released the Beatles. The song became the formation's first number one hit.

Emergence

From Me to You was created during a tour by Helen Shapiro , on which the Beatles were also involved. The song was composed by John Lennon and Paul McCartney together, making it one of the few real Lennon / McCartney compositions. The title refers to the letter to the editor of the music magazine New Musical Express , which is titled From You to Us .

John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr recorded the song five days after its composition on March 5, 1963 at Abbey Road Studios in London . The producer was George Martin . Electric guitars , bass , drums and vocals were recorded live in the studio in seven takes . Then, choir, guitar solo and were harmonica per overdub added. The harmonica can only be heard in the mono mix of the song; it was not included in the stereo version made later .

On April 11, 1963, the song was released as a single in the UK (on the B-side is the song Thank You Girl ) . It peaked at number 1 on the UK singles chart and has been in the charts for a total of 21 weeks.

In the United States , where it was also released as a single, the song could not place. Only 4000 copies were sold nationwide. In contrast, a cover version of Del Shannon , published in June 1963, made it onto the Billboard Hot 100 (number 77) and stayed in the charts for four weeks.

Based on From Me to You , Ken Thorne composed in 1965 for the soundtrack of the film Hi-Hi-Hilfe! the instrumental piece From Me to You Fantasy , which was released in August 1965 on the US version of the album Help! was released by Capitol Records .

A version of the album On Air - Live at the BBC Volume 2 was released in 2013, which the band had recorded for the BBC radio station .

Cover versions have been released by the Bee Gees , Bobby McFerrin , Alvin and the Chipmunks and Mae West , among others .
