The Biez Jean is a river in France that runs in the Ille-et-Vilaine department in the Brittany region . It rises near the hamlet of Ville Perdue on the municipal boundary of Epiniac and Bonnemain , generally drains in a north-westerly direction, changing its name several times ( Ruisseau du Pont-Melin , Ruisseau du Pont Atelle ) and flows after 30 kilometers at the municipal boundary of Saint-Benoît- des-Ondes and Hirel in the English Channel . In its lower reaches, it is used to add water to the Canal des Allemands , which was built as an anti-tank trench by the German troops during World War II .

history

The name of the river is derived from an homage to the Breton Duke John VI. who initiated the sewerage of the river mouth in 1420, which at that time formed a huge swampy landscape.
