Châtel-Montagne is a French commune with a population of 347 (as at 1st January 2017) in the department of Allier in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes (2015 Auvergne ). It belongs to the arrondissement of Vichy and the canton of Lapalisse (until 2015: canton of Le Mayet-de-Montagne ).

Châtel-Montagne is about 20 kilometers east of Vichy . The neighboring municipalities of Châtel-Montagne are Le Breuil in the north and north-west, Arfeuilles in the north and north-east, Saint-Nicolas-des-Biefs in the east and south-east, Saint-Clément in the south, Le Mayet-de-Montagne in the south and south-west, Nizerolles in the west and Isserpent in the northwest.
