Joseph Dollard Hervé Saint-Laurent (born May 12, 1929 in Verdun , Québec ; † April 6, 2015 in Belœil , Québec) was a Canadian ice hockey player who played 744 games for the Canadiens de Montréal and Chicago Black Hawks has played in the National Hockey League on the position of defender . During his eleven seasons in the NHL St. Laurent won a total of five Stanley Cups - between 1953 and 1958 four times with the Canadiens de Montréal and in 1961 once again with the Chicago Black Hawks.

Career

St. Laurent, who was born in Verdun , an arrondissement of Montreal , spent his junior years between 1947 and 1949 with the Canadien junior de Montréal . With these he played for two years in the Ligue de hockey junior du Québec , the predecessor of the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec . There the defender made it to the league's First All-Star Team at the end of the 1948/49 season, after collecting 46 scorer points in 48 games . Among them were 15 goals. In the previous year, he had missed most of the game year due to a broken collarbone .

For the 1949/50 season, the French-Canadian switched to the professional field within the city limits and belonged to the Royaux de Montréal from the Ligue de hockey senior du Québec , who were in cooperation with the Canadiens de Montréal from the National Hockey League , for the following three years . on. With his performances there he also drew the attention of the sister club. So he came to his first three missions for the team in the 1950/51 game year before he completed 49 games, including the Stanley Cup playoffs in 1952 , in the following year . From the summer of 1952, St. Laurent was part of the Canadiens' NHL squad and won the Stanley Cup four times with them in 1953 , 1956 , 1957 and 1958 . The defender took part in the NHL All-Star Game just as often .

As a result of the fourth Cup win with the Canadiens de Montreal St. Laurent was the league rivals in June 1958 Chicago Blackhawks sold, the as further obligation under the transfer business from February 1959 also Norm Johnson at Montreal's farm team Rochester Americans from the American Hockey League until the end of the season. The Black Hawks tried in the following years to build a powerful team to bring the first Stanley Cup since 1938 to Chicago. After the end of his career, St. Laurent worked as an insurance and finance businessman. St. Laurent died in April 2015 a few weeks before his 86th birthday in his adopted home Belœil in the province of Québec . His health had steadily deteriorated since 2007 when he underwent triple bypass surgery.
