The 1950/51 NHL season was the 34th season in the National Hockey League . Six teams played 70 games each. The Stanley Cup won the Toronto Maple Leafs after a 4-1 win in the final series against the Montréal Canadiens for the fifth time in seven years. The decisive goal in the last final game in overtime was scored by Bill Barilko . The photo of the diving Barilko is certainly the most famous picture from the time of the Original Six and one of the last of him. He did not return from a fishing trip. His body wasn't found until 1962, the same year the Leafs win their next cup. Gordie Howe returned to the NHL after a serious head injury, temporarily wearing a helmet. After a severe concussion, his headache was gone, but he gave his opponents some. After 22 years, he was the first to top the list for goals (43), assists (43) and points (86).
