The 1947/48 NHL season was the 31st season in the National Hockey League . Six teams played 60 games each. The Toronto Maple Leafs won the Stanley Cup after beating the Chicago Black Hawks 4-0 in the final series .

The Toronto Maple Leafs hosted the first All-Star Game. The reigning Stanley Cup winner defeated the NHL All-Stars 4-3. At that time not yet common and therefore particularly sensational was a swap in which five players moved from Toronto to Chicago to win the two-time top scorer Max Bentley and Cy Thomas for the Black Hawks.
