The 1945/46 NHL season was the 29th season in the National Hockey League . Six teams played 50 games each. The Stanley Cup won the Montréal Canadiens after a 4-1 win in the final series against the Boston Bruins .

At the end of World War II , numerous players returned to the league. For example in Boston the Kraut Line consisting of Milt Schmidt , Woody Dumart and Bobby Bauer . The Hockey Hall of Fame was established and the New York Rangers experimented for the first time with two goalkeepers who took turns game after game.
