The 1928-29 NHL season was the twelfth season in the National Hockey League . Ten teams played 44 games each. The Boston Bruins won the Stanley Cup after a 2-0 win in the final series against the New York Rangers . The Bruins engraved Hal Winkler's name on the cup, although the latter had retired before the season. Until 1998 he was the only player on the Cup who hadn't played that season.
It was a goalkeeping season. Above all, George Hainsworth made life difficult for the opposing attackers. With 22 shutouts and an average of 0.92 goals conceded per game, he was the most successful goalkeeper, but another seven goalies brought it to 10 or more shutouts. One of the "victims" was the Chicago Black Hawks, who missed eight games in a row. The team from Chicago had to survive goalless for 601 minutes and 41 seconds.
