The 1953/54 NHL season was the 37th season in the National Hockey League . Six teams played 70 games each. The Stanley Cup won the Detroit Red Wings after a 4-3 victory in the final series against the Montréal Canadiens . Montreal signed Jean Béliveau from Quebec . He received a record $ 100,000 for a five-year contract. Due to injury, he was only able to play 44 games. He was only able to prove his worth in the years to come.
