Camille Joseph Wilfred Henry (born January 31, 1933 in Québec , Québec , † September 11, 1997 ) was a Canadian ice hockey player (left winger) and coach who worked for the New York Rangers , Chicago Black Hawks and St. Louis from 1953 to 1970 Blues played in the National Hockey League .
Career
During his junior years, Henry played with the Quebec Citadelles in the QJHL . In the 1953/54 season he made his NHL debut with the New York Rangers . He was the best rookie of his year and was therefore awarded the Calder Memorial Trophy . After 21 games the following season, the Rangers sent him to Quebec Aces in the QHL . This was followed by a year and a half with the Providence Reds in the AHL . Only in the course of the 1956/57 season he returned to the Rangers and this time prevailed permanently. With just two penalty minutes in 70 games, he won the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy the following season . He always remained one of the most dangerous attackers with the Rangers, but was hardly to be found in the penalty box. On November 1, 1959, when Jacques Plante first played with a goalkeeper mask , Henry was the first player to overcome him. In his last season with the Rangers 1964/65 he came for the first time over ten penalty minutes. At the end of the season he moved to the Chicago Black Hawks .
The following year he played with the St. Louis Braves in the CPHL . He thought of retiring, but returned to the New York Rangers in exchange for Paul Shmyr . For half the year he played with the Buffalo Bisons in the AHL.
Together with Bill Plager he switched to the St. Louis Blues . In the 1968/69 season he was one of the best scorers in the blues. After some appearances with the Kansas City Blues in the Central Hockey League , he ended his career in 1970.
At the Kansas City Blues, he then worked as a coach. He later coached the New York Raiders in the World Hockey Association .
