Walter Robert Tkaczuk (born September 29, 1947 in Emsdetten , Germany ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player who played for the New York Rangers in the National Hockey League during his career .

Career

In his youth he played for the Kitchener Rangers in the Ontario Hockey Association after he was discovered and signed by the New York Rangers in 1963 . On January 24, 1968, Tkaczuk made his National Hockey League debut in a game against the Boston Bruins . After a total of 13 completed seasons in the NHL, Tkaczuk had to end his career as an active player due to an eye injury during the NHL season 1981/82 . He played his last game on February 2, 1981 against the Los Angeles Kings . At the time, the center was captain of the Rangers team and ranked third as the player with the most stakes for the franchise . After his resignation, he looked after the New York Rangers for two seasons as assistant coach to the then head coach Herb Brooks .

For the ice hockey world championship in 1977 Tkaczuk was in contact with the German ice hockey association , but ultimately did not take part.
