Arthur Edmund "Art" Coulter (born May 31, 1909 in Winnipeg , Manitoba , † October 14, 2000 ) was a Canadian ice hockey player who, in his active time from 1924 to 1944, among others for the Chicago Black Hawks and New York Rangers in the National Hockey League has played.
Career
Art Coulter began his career as a hockey player in his hometown, where he was active from 1924 to 1927 for the amateur team Winnipeg Pilgrims. After a two-year break he played from 1929 to 1932 for the Philadelphia Arrows in the professional league Canadian-American Hockey League . Then the defender received a contract with the Chicago Black Hawks from the National Hockey League . His greatest success with the Black Hawks was winning the Stanley Cup in the 1933/34 season . During the 1935/36 season he was transferred from his team to the New York Rangers , with whom he also won the Stanley Cup in the 1939/40 season. He was also successful in his time in the NHL and was elected to the second All-Star Team of the NHL in 1935, 1938, 1939 and 1940 . Following the 1941/42 season , the Canadian left the New York Rangers to serve in his home country's army during World War II . While in the military, he played for the Coast Guard Clippers for two years before retiring at the age of 35.
In 1974, Coulter was honored with induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame . He was also inducted into the Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame as an honored member .
