Christopher Drury (born August 20, 1976 in Trumbull , Connecticut ) is a former American ice hockey player and current professional who played 1027 games for the Colorado Avalanche , Calgary Flames , Buffalo Sabers and New during his active career between 1998 and 2011 York Rangers has contested in the National Hockey League on the position of the center . In the course of his career, Drury won the 2001 Stanley Cup and won at the Olympic Winter Games 2002and in 2010 the silver medal. Since September 2016 he has been assistant general manager at his former club New York Rangers. His older brother Ted Drury was also a professional ice hockey player.
Career
Drury was selected in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft in the third round as 72nd by the Québec Nordiques . Drury played another four years at Boston University . Here he went on the ice together with other later NHL players such as Mike Grier and Tom Poti . In 1998, he won the Hobey Baker Memorial Award for Best Player of the Season.
The following year he made the leap into the National Hockey League . After the team from Quebec had now moved to Denver , Colorado , he played for the Colorado Avalanche . In his debut season , he scored 44 points in the regular season and eight in the play-offs, earning him the Calder Memorial Trophy as the best rookie . In 2001 he won the Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche . Shortly before the start of the 2002/03 season , the Avalanche wanted to strengthen its defense. To sign Derek Morris of the Calgary Flames , a major swap was negotiated that brought Drury to Calgary. In 2002 he won the silver medal at the Winter Olympics .
In the NHL he moved on to the Buffalo Sabers after a season . The year 2006 was successful for him there. He took part in the Winter Olympics and was successful with the Sabers in the playoffs. 2006/07 Drury played his best season and moved into the final of the Eastern Conference with the Sabers like last year .
After the Buffalo Sabers did not renew his contract, Drury moved to the New York Rangers and signed a five-year contract there. After four seasons for the team, Drury, who had meanwhile been elected as New York's team captain, was bought free by the Rangers from his one-year contract. In August 2011, Drury declared his playing career over.
Drury took part in the 2010 Winter Olympics with Team USA and won the silver medal with the team.
