Mark Edward Fusco (born March 12, 1961 in Burlington , Massachusetts ) is a former American ice hockey player and current official who played for the Hartford Whalers in the National Hockey League on the position of defender during his playing career . His brother Scott was also a professional ice hockey player. After retiring as an athlete in 1985, Fusco became a manager and has been a board member at Aspen Technology , a US software manufacturer for process simulation , since January 2005 .

Career

As a player

Mark Fusco skated for the Belmont Hill High School ice hockey team in the United States high school league system from 1977 to 1979 . He then began studying at Harvard University and also played ice hockey for their team, the Harvard Crimson , in the ECAC . After his first season in the ECAC, he was voted Rookie of the Year. In the following three years Fusco received numerous individual honors due to his good performance and was selected several times in a selection team of the best players in the league.

His last season with the Harvard Crimson team was his most successful and in 1983 he won the Hobey Baker Memorial Award for best player of the year from the National Collegiate Athletic Association and the ECAC championship with Harvard University. Although Fusco played in the position of defender, he was considered an offensive playmaker. On February 25, 1984 he signed a contract with the Hartford Whalers as a free agent . With the Whalers he was set as a regular player, but after the 1984/85 season Fusco decided to end his career. In 2002 he was inducted into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame with his brother Scott .

Even after his sports career, Fusco stayed with ice hockey and was a member of the United States Olympic Committee and the board of the US hockey association USA Hockey .

International

Fusco represented his home country at the 1981 World Junior Championship , the 1984 Winter Olympics , the 1984 Canada Cup and the 1985 World Championship . His greatest success was fourth place at the 1985 World Cup.

In management

After his career as an ice hockey player, Fusco graduated from Harvard Business School in 1990 . He then worked for various international IT consulting firms and was one of the co-founders and president of Software Quality Partners , a consulting firm that Ajilon Consulting bought in 1999 . He was Chief Operating Officer and President of the company in the company with 4,000 employees . Since January 2005 he has been President and Board Member of Aspen Technology . In 2008 he received the NCAA Silver Anniversary Award for students who were able to achieve outstanding performance both in sport and after their studies.
