Kip Charles Miller (born June 11, 1969 in Lansing , Michigan ) is a retired American ice hockey player . During his career, he played for the Québec Nordiques , Minnesota North Stars , San Jose Sharks , New York Islanders , Chicago Blackhawks , Pittsburgh Penguins , Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and Washington Capitals in the National Hockey League . His brothers Kevin and Kelly were also active in the NHL, as are his cousins Ryan and Drew .

Career

Miller played the next four years 1984-1988, partially with his brother Kevin, at the Michigan State University in Central Collegiate Hockey Association of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . After two mixed, but constant seasons, he was able to almost double his point yield in his third year of college and was selected in two All-Star teams. His fourth and final year of college finished with 101 points in just 45 games, earning him numerous awards including winning the Hobey Baker Memorial Award for best college player of the year.

After he had already been selected in the seventh round in the seventh round in the 1987 NHL Entry Draft by the Québec Nordiques , they took him under contract for the 1990/91 season . In his first two seasons as a professional, the American was only used sporadically in the NHL, but was one of the best point collectors in the Nordiques farm team from the American Hockey League . In March 1992 he was then transferred to the Minnesota North Stars , where he was mostly used in the farm team in the International Hockey League . In the following five seasons between 1993 and 1998 Miller played for the San Jose Sharks , New York Islanders and Chicago Blackhawks.In the season 1994/95 , which he spent with the Islanders, he won with the Denver Grizzlies , the Islanders' farm team, the Turner Cup , the championship of the IHL, and was also awarded the Norman R. "Bud" Poile Trophy for the most valuable player in the playoffs .

In October 1998, Miller's NHL career took off after the setbacks of previous years when the Pittsburgh Penguins picked him off the waiver list. Over two seasons, the center played 121 games for the Penguins and scored 61 points before he was given in January 2000 to the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim . In the summer of the same year he returned to the Pittsburgh Penguins as a free agent . There he was only used sporadically and moved to the 2001/02 season for the third time to the New York Islanders for whom he had already accrued in the 1994/95 and 1997/98 seasons. He also left the Islanders after only a year. Miller completed his last two NHL seasons with the Washington Capitals between 2002 and 2004 . Before ending his active career in the summer of 2007, he played three years in the AHL with the Grand Rapids Griffins and Chicago Wolves .

International

At the international level, Miller represented the US national team at the 1988 Junior World Championship and the 1990 World Senior Championship .
