Kevin Bradley Miller (born September 9, 1965 in Lansing , Michigan ) is a former American ice hockey player who played 681 games for the New York Rangers , Detroit Red Wings , Washington Capitals , St. Louis Blues , San Jose Sharks , Pittsburgh Penguins , Chicago Blackhawks , New York Islanders and Ottawa Senators in the National Hockey League on the right winger position . In addition, Miller was active for HC Davos in the Swiss National League A , with which he became Swiss champion and twice won the Spengler Cup . His brothers Kip and Kelly were also active in the NHL, as are his cousins Ryan and Drew .

Career

Miller played the next four years 1984-1988, partially with his two brothers, at the Michigan State University in Central Collegiate Hockey Association of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . In the four years of which he had spent part of the last with the US national team and participated in the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary , his performances have always been solid without causing a stir.

After he had already been selected by the New York Rangers in the tenth round of the 1984 NHL Entry Draft in the tenth round in 202nd position , they took him under contract at the beginning of the 1988/89 season . For the first two seasons in the professional field, the right winger usually had to be content with a place on the farm team and only played 40 missions with the Rangers. It was not until the 1990/91 season that he made the leap into the NHL regular squad, but became the Detroit Red Wings during the season . There was another move to the Washington Capitals , before he was given up after only ten games to the St. Louis Blues . Miller played two and a half seasons with the Blues, including his best NHL season with 48 points from 75 games. In the course of the game year 1994/95 , the American moved to the San Jose Sharks . He did not stay there long either and subsequently played for the Pittsburgh Penguins , Chicago Blackhawks , New York Islanders and Ottawa Senators . At the end of the 1999/00 season he won the Turner Cup , the championship of the International Hockey League, with the Grand Rapids Griffins .

Since Miller often had to play in the minor leagues again in the three seasons between 1997 and 2000 and only had limited ice times in the NHL, he signed a contract with HC Davos from the Swiss National League A for the 2000/01 season . In his three years at the traditional Swiss club, he won the Swiss championship in 2002 , the first after 17 years without a title, and twice the Spengler Cup , including the first Davos tournament victory since 1958. Miller made negative headlines during his engagement in Switzerland when he checked his opponent Andrew McKim from behind on the open ice in his first season . This suffered a severe traumatic brain injury that resulted in the end of his career. Miller was then banned from the league for eight games and sentenced to a fine of 3,000 Swiss francs , and in the summer of 2005 he was found guilty of bodily harm by the Zurich district court. This would have meant three months' imprisonment and a fine of 10,000 Swiss francs. After several objections, the Zurich Higher Court finally passed the final judgment in April 2008 , which obliged him to pay 3,000 Swiss francs. In addition, he is 100 percent liable to McKim for damages.

In the summer of 2003, Miller returned to North America, where he signed a contract with the Detroit Red Wings. This used him only four times in the NHL in the 2003/04 season . Mostly he was on the farm team in the American Hockey League . After seven games for the Flint Generals from the United Hockey League in the 2004/05 season, he ended his career.

International

In addition to participating in the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary , Miller also played at the 1991 , 1998 and 2003 World Championships and the 1991 Canada Cup for the US national team . At the Canada Cup he was able to achieve second place.
