The Flint Generals were an American ice hockey franchise of the International Hockey League based in Flint , Michigan . The General's venue was the IMA Sports Arena .

history

The Flint Generals were founded in 1969 as a franchise of the International Hockey League . The team achieved their greatest success when they won the Turner Cup in the 1983/84 season, when they beat the Toledo Goaldiggers in the best of seven series with a sweep in the finals . Apart from this success, Flint never got past the second playoff round. After 16 years in the IHL, the franchise was relocated to Saginaw , Michigan , in 1985 , where it then took part in the IHL's gaming operations under the name Saginaw Generals .

The void left by the relocation of the Generals in Flint was filled by the Flint Spirits , who played in the IHL from 1985 to 1990.
