The Des Moines Capitols were an American ice hockey franchise of the International Hockey League based in Des Moines , Iowa . The venue for the Capitols was the Oak Creek Ice Arena .

history

The Des Moines Oak Leafs from the International Hockey League were bought by Crawford C. Hubbell in 1972 and renamed Des Moines Capitols. After the team finished third in the South Division in their first season, they won in the 1973/74 season with 96 points first the Fred A. Huber Trophy as the winner of the regular season, before then in the final of the Turner Cup in the Best-of-seven series with 4-2 wins that beat Saginaw Gears . In the following year, the team could not build on this success and the franchise was dissolved following the 1974/75 season.
