The Colorado / Denver Rangers were an American ice hockey franchise of the International Hockey League from Denver , Colorado .

history

The Indianapolis Checkers were relocated from Indianapolis , Indiana to Denver , Colorado in 1987 and renamed the Colorado Rangers. The team got the name because of their cooperation with the New York Rangers from the National Hockey League . The team was able to reach the playoffs in their first season and was only eliminated in the second round. For the 1988/89 season, the name of the franchise was changed to Denver Rangers. The team from Colorado reached the playoffs again, but was eliminated in round 1. Following this season, the franchise was relocated to Phoenix , Arizona , where it took part in the International Hockey League's game operations under the name Phoenix Roadrunners .
