The San Diego Gulls were an American ice hockey franchise of the International Hockey League based in San Diego , California . Their home ground was the San Diego Sports Arena .

history

The San Diego Gulls were founded in 1990 as a franchise of the International Hockey League . Since the Gulls took first place after the main round of the IHL in the 1992/93 season, they won the Fred A. Huber Trophy . Then they reached the play-off final, which was lost 4-0 to the Fort Wayne Komets . The club could not repeat this success.

In 1993 those responsible for the club entered into a cooperation with the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim from the National Hockey League . In the following two seasons, the Gulls were eliminated in the first and second round of the finals. In the summer of 1995, the cooperation with the Mighty Ducks was terminated and the club relocated to Los Angeles , California , where it took part in the IHL's gaming operations under the name Los Angeles Ice Dogs .
