Perry Lynn Anderson (born October 14, 1961 in Barrie , Ontario ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player who played 453 games for the St. Louis Blues , New Jersey Devils and San Jose Sharks in the course of his playing career between 1978 and 1993 National Hockey League on the position of the left winger .
Career
Anderson first played three years from 1978 to 1981 with the Kingston Canadians in the Ontario Major Junior Hockey League , which was renamed the Ontario Hockey League for the 1980/81 season . At that time he moved within the league to the Brantford Alexanders .
For the 1981/82 season , the winger signed his first NHL contract with the St. Louis Blues , which had selected him in the 1980 NHL Entry Draft in the sixth round in 117th position. This put him for the time being in the Central Hockey League with the Salt Lake Golden Eagles , but towards the end of the regular season and in the playoffs he made the jump into the NHL squad of the Blues. He also spent the following two seasons in both the CHL and the NHL. In the season 1984/85 he finally made the jump to the NHL team, but was transferred to the New Jersey Devils the following summer in exchange for Rick Meagher and a twelve-round vote in the 1986 NHL Entry Draft . Anderson played there until the end of the 1990/91 season . During this time he had to play again and again in the American Hockey League with the farm teams of the Devils. For the 1991/92 season the Devils did not want to extend Anderson's contract, and so he signed a contract as a free agent with the newly founded San Jose Sharks , where he only played half a season. He let his career end in the 1992/93 and 1993/94 seasons in the International Hockey League .
