The 1980/81 OHL season was the first season of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), which emerged that year from the Ontario Major Junior Hockey League . The Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds won the Hamilton Spectator Trophy as the best point team of the regular season , but were defeated in the playoff final by the Kitchener Rangers , who thus secured their first J. Ross Robertson Cup .
