Russell Norman Adam (born May 5, 1961 in Windsor , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player and coach , who has played eight times for the Toronto Maple Leafs in the National Hockey League . His son Luke Adam is also a professional ice hockey player.

Career

Russ Adam began his career as a hockey player with the Windsor Royals from the Ontario Hockey Association , for which he was active in the 1977/78 season. In the same season he was on the ice for the Windsor Spitfires from the OMJHL . From 1978 to 1981 Adam played for three years for their league rivals, the Kitchener Rangers and won the Memorial Cup with his team in 1981 . During this time he was selected during the 1980 NHL Entry Draft as a total of 137th player in the seventh round of the Toronto Maple Leafs . In the 1981/82 season, however, the Canadian first played for the New Brunswick Hawks from the American Hockey League , before he was used eight times in the National Hockey League for the Maple Leafs in the following season .

After two seasons each with the St. Catharines Saints from the AHL, the Fort Wayne Komets from the International Hockey League and the St. John's Capitals from the Newfoundland Senior Hockey League, Adam ended his career in Europe, where he spent four years in Germany was under contract. Adam first played in 1988/89 at ESV Kaufbeuren , with whom he was relegated from the ice hockey Bundesliga and finally for three years until 1992 at Augsburg EV in the 2nd ice hockey Bundesliga .

After the end of his career as a player, Adam worked from 2001 to 2005 for a total of four years for the then farm team of his ex-club Toronto Maple Leafs , the St. John's Maple Leafs , in the American Hockey League as an assistant coach.
