Luke Adam (born June 18, 1990 in St. John’s , Newfoundland and Labrador ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been playing in the DEL center position at the Düsseldorfer EG since May 2019 . His father, Russ Adam, was also a professional ice hockey player.

Career

Adam first played until 2006 in his hometown with the St. John's Maple Leafs , before he was selected in the LHJMQ Entry Draft 2006 in the first round in seventh place by the St. John's Fog Devils from the Québec Major Junior Hockey League. After only 15 points in his rookie season, he increased the following year to 66 points scorer, whereupon he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2008 in the second round in 44th position by the Buffalo Sabers . When the Fog Devils moved to Montréal , the attacker played for the Montréal Juniors in the 2008/09 season . He played due to participation in the U20 Junior World Cup in 2010 and a spleen injury towards the end of the season, only 47 games in which he came to 49 points. For the 2009/10 season, the Juniors transferred the striker in exchange for Nicolas Chouinard , Spencer MacDonald and a first-round vote in the LHJMQ Entry Draft 2009 to league rivals Cape Breton Screaming Eagles . There he completed his best season with 90 points in 56 games and was appointed to the First All-Star team. Towards the end of the season, the Buffalo Sabers, who had already signed him in April 2010, brought him into their farm team . For the Portland Pirates Adam played three games in the play-offs of the American Hockey League .

With the start of the 2010/11 season , Adam was an integral part of the Pirates' squad, but made his debut in the National Hockey League in October 2010 . During the season, the center played 19 NHL games for the Sabers and came up with four points. In the AHL he played 57 games and scored 62 points. These were the second-most within the team behind Mark Mancaris 64 and the most among all league beginners . As a result, Adam received the Dudley "Red" Garrett Memorial Award for Best Rookie of the Season and was named to the AHL All-Rookie Team . In addition, he had participated in the AHL All-Star Classic during the season. For the 2011/12 season he received a regular place in the Sabers NHL squad. During the season he received a nomination for the SuperSkills competition of the rookies at the NHL All-Star Game 2012 in the Canadian capital Ottawa .

Despite the 20 points in 52 NHL games, he spent almost the entire 2012/13 season in the AHL with the Rochester Americans , for which he was on the ice 67 times. In the Sabers he only played four games and was also not in the NHL squad at the beginning of the 2013/14 season , but completed at least 12 appearances for Buffalo during the season. In December 2014 Adam was transferred to the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for Jerry D'Amigo within the league , where he will initially play again in the farm team, the Springfield Falcons from the AHL.

Luke Adam at the Adler Mannheim

After almost six months in Columbus, his contract was not extended, so he joined the New York Rangers in July 2015 , where he was initially sent to the Hartford Wolf Pack farm team in the AHL at the beginning of the 2015/16 season . There he spent the entire season and then received no further contract in New York, so that he moved to Europe for the first time in October 2016 and signed a one-year contract with the Adler Mannheim .

In 2019 Adam won the German championship with the eagles and then moved to Düsseldorfer EG .

International

Adam represented his home country Canada at the 2010 U20 World Youth Championship in the Canadian cities of Saskatoon and Regina . After a narrow 5-6 defeat in overtime to the United States , the Canadians won the silver medal. In six tournament games Adam scored four goals, including the first goal of the final, and prepared another four. He also received eight penalty minutes.

He also played in the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2006 for the Canada Atlantic team , where he prepared a goal in five games.
