Alexander Urbom (born December 20, 1990 in Stockholm ) is a Swedish ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Düsseldorfer EG in the German Ice Hockey League since May 2019 .

Career

Alexander Urbom began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of Djurgårdens IF , for whose professional team he made his debut in the Elitserien in the 2008/09 season . In his rookie year , he remained defender in 28 games without points and received two penalty minutes.

He was then selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2009 in the third round as a total of 73rd player by the New Jersey Devils . First, however, he spent a season with the Brandon Wheat Kings in the Canadian Junior Western Hockey League , before he was in the National Hockey League for the New Jersey Devils for the first time on the ice in the 2010/11 season . At the same time, he played from the 2010/11 season for their farm team Albany Devils in the second-rate American Hockey League . At the beginning of the 2013-14 season , New Jersey put Urbom on the waiver . In October 2013, the Washington Capitals then signed him . In January 2014 he was transferred back to the Devils via the waiver, but played again only with the farm team in Albany until the end of the season.

In the summer of 2014, the defender returned to Europe and joined the Russian club Severstal Tscherepowez from the Continental Hockey League . For the 2015/16 season Urbom moved to his Swedish homeland and signed a contract with Skellefteå AIK from Svenska Hockeyligan . Before his second year of contract there, Urbom was loaned to his hometown club, Djurgårdens IF.

After a total of three years with Djurgården, Urbom signed a one-year contract with Düsseldorfer EG in May 2019 .
