The St. John's Fog Devils were a Canadian ice hockey team from St. John's , Newfoundland . The team played from 2005 to 2008 in one of the top three Canadian junior ice hockey leagues, the Québec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL).
history
The St. John's Fog Devils were founded in 2005 as a franchise of the Québec Major Junior Hockey League . They filled the void left by the relocation of the St. John's Maple Leafs from the American Hockey League to Toronto in 2005. In the three seasons of their existence, they each just reached the playoffs for the Coupe du Président , the championship title of the QMJHL, in the lower half of their division , but were eliminated in the first round. One after the other, the Fog Devils failed in the best-of-seven series at Cape Breton Screaming Eagles (1: 4 and 0: 4) and Acadie-Bathurst Titan (2: 4). In addition to the moderate sporting successes, the franchise suffered heavy financial losses (a total of $ 750,000 in the 2006/07 season alone), so that after the 2007/08 season, those responsible decided to relocate the franchise to Montréal , Québec , where it has since participated in the QMJHL game operations under the name Club de hockey junior de Montréal . This makes Newfoundland the only province in Canada without its own CHL franchise.
