The Maple Leafs de Verdun were a Canadian ice hockey team from Verdun (now a district of Montreal ). The team played from 1969 to 1972 in one of the three highest Canadian junior ice hockey leagues, the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec (LHJMQ).
history
The Maple Leafs de Verdun were founded in the 1920s and played in the Montreal City Hockey League until 1937 , before being active in the Quebec Senior Hockey League until 1942 . From 1933 to 1950 the Maple Leafs ran a farm team of the same name , which ran parallel to the senior team for eight years. After 13 years, the team was reactivated in 1963 and played for three years each in the Montreal Metropolitan Junior Hockey League and the Ligue de hockey junior du Québec .
For the 1969/70 season Verdun received a franchise for the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec , which was awarded to the Maple Leafs. In the three seasons in which the team took part in the LHJMQ game operations, they each qualified for the playoffs for the Coupe du Président . While they were eliminated twice in the first round, her greatest achievement was reaching the second round in the 1969/70 season, in which they for a 4: 2 victory in the best-of-seven series on the Cornwall Royals with 1: 4 victories to the Alouettes de Saint-Jérôme . Following the 1971/72 season, the franchise was finally dissolved.
