André "Moose" Dupont (born July 27, 1949 in Trois-Rivières , Québec) is a former Canadian ice hockey player , coach and scout , who played 940 games for the New York Rangers between 1968 and 1983 . St. Louis Blues , Philadelphia Flyers and Nordiques de Québec has played in the National Hockey League on the position of defender . With the Philadelphia Flyers he won the Stanley Cup twice in a row in 1974 and 1975 as part of the so-called "Broad Street Bullies" .

Career

Dupont first spent his junior years in his hometown in Trois-Rivières, where he worked for teams in the Ligue de hockey junior du Québec until 1968 . By this time he had already participated in the Memorial Cup twice; a third time followed in 1969 with the later victorious Canadien junior de Montréal , to whom he had switched before the 1968/69 season. After winning the title, the defender in the 1969 NHL Amateur Draft was selected in the first round in eighth position by the New York Rangers from the National Hockey League and then switched to the professional field.

The defender ran in the 1969/70 season for the Omaha Knights in the Central Hockey League . With these he won the Adams Cup at the end of the season . He himself was named the league's rookie of the year . In the following season, in which he completed his only seven appearances for the New York Rangers, the team repeated the title win. The Knights were so dominant that both Dupont and his teammates Peter McDuffe and Gerry Ouellette as well as Joe Zanussi of the Fort Worth Wings were honored with the CHL Most Valuable Player Award as the most valuable game in the league. Despite his success, the Canadian left the Knights and played for the Providence Reds in the American Hockey League before he was transferred from the New York Rangers to the St. Louis Blues in November 1971 with Jack Egers and Mike Murphy . In return, Gene Carr , Jim Lorentz and Wayne Connelly moved to the east coast of New York.

In St. Louis, the 22-year-old finally made the permanent leap into the NHL and was an unrestricted regular player there until another move in December 1972. With the joint change of a third-round suffrage in the 1973 NHL Amateur Draft to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for Brent Hughes and Pierre Plante , Dupont's most successful time in the league followed. In 1974 and 1975 he won the Stanley Cup twice in a row in the service of the so-called "Broad Street Bullies" around Bobby Clarke , Gary Dornhoefer , Bob Kelly , Don Saleski and Dave Schultz . Before he left after the 1979/80 season , two more finals should follow. In September 1980, Dupont was transferred back to his home province, where he let the last three years of his career with the Nordiques de Québec end. Between 1980 and 1981 he was there, the fifth team captain of the franchise credit history.

After the 1982/83 season and 940 completed NHL games, the defensive player ended his active career at the age of 34. Subsequently, he looked after the Draveurs de Trois-Rivières from the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec for three years until 1986, unsuccessfully as head coach and did not return to this position at another club. After working as a scout for the Ottawa Senators from the NHL between 1991 and 1996 , he retired completely from the ice hockey business.
