Gerald Adrian "Gerry" Ouellette (born November 1, 1938 in Grand Falls , New Brunswick ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who played 34 games for the Boston Bruins in the National Hockey League (NHL ) has contested on the position of the right winger . However, Ouellette spent most of his career in the minor leagues , where he played over 400 games in the American Hockey League (AHL) and won the Calder Cup in 1970 for the Buffalo Bisons .
Career
Ouellette spent his junior years until 1959 in the lower class junior leagues of the Canadian province of Ontario . There he last played for the Waterloo Siskins in the 1958/59 season . In the summer of 1959, the winger was finally signed by the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League (NHL). The Bruins used him with the exception of 34 NHL games for them in the 1960/61 season but almost exclusively in the Eastern Professional Hockey League (EPHL), where he played successfully for the Kingston Frontenacs . With the Frontenacs he won the league championship in 1963 in the form of the Tom Foley Memorial Trophy .
At this point in time, the Canadian was no longer owned by the Boston Bruins franchise , as they had given him to the San Francisco Seals of the Western Hockey League (WHL) in July 1962 to complete a swap deal . The Seals then continued to loan Ouellette to the Frontenacs. They did the same from September 1963, from where he was loaned out to the Minneapolis Bruins from the Central Professional Hockey League (CPHL) for the next two years . For San Francisco itself, the attacker completed only seven missions in the 1964/65 season .
In June 1965 Ouellette moved to the Buffalo Bisons in the American Hockey League (AHL), where he was at home over a period of five years. In the five seasons, the offensive player continuously increased his offensive yield. After he had 32 scorer points in his first full year in the league - he had already gained his first experience in the league in the 1961/62 season in the jersey of the Providence Reds - he had increased to 72 points in the 1969/70 season . That year he won the Calder Cup with the bison .
Despite the success, the striker left the bison and joined the Omaha Knights from the now under Central Hockey League (CHL) league for the 1970/71 season . With 58 assists he led the league, which together with his teammates André Dupont and Peter McDuffe and Joe Zanussi from Fort Worth Wings won the CHL Most Valuable Player Award . He also led the team as top scorer in the playoffs to win the Adams Cup . Ouellette then retired from professional ice hockey at the age of 32. For the following three seasons he supervised the Campbellton Tigers from the North Shore New Brunswick Hockey League in his home province of New Brunswick as head coach, before running for two more years between 1974 and 1976.
