history

The franchise of Memphis Wings of the Central Professional Hockey League became the season 1967/68 to Fort Worth, Texas, relocated and renamed Fort Worth Wings. The team was named after the Detroit Red Wings from the National Hockey League , whose farm team it was until 1973. Although the team sometimes had several NHL teams as cooperation partners, it was quite unsuccessful in its first few years and never got beyond the first playoff round.

After the end of the commitment of the Detroit Red Wings, the team owners changed the name of the team in Fort Worth Texans and the New York Islanders were found as a new cooperation partner in the mid-1970s, who dominated the NHL at that time. Like their cooperation partner, the Fort Worth Texans played in the colors blue, white and orange from then on. In the 1977/78 season they finally won the Adams Cup , the championship of the CHL, for the first and only time . From 1979 to 1982, the Texans with the possessed Colorado Rockies while still an NHL partner, but the Texans were among the weaker teams in the league and because of the declining audience section represented the Fort Worth Texans following the 1981-82 season , a game operation .
