The Memphis South Stars were an American ice hockey franchise of the Central Hockey League based in Memphis , Tennessee .
history
The Memphis South Stars began playing in the Central Professional Hockey League for the 1967/68 season , in which they were the new farm team of the Minnesota North Stars from the National Hockey League . In the city itself, they filled the void left by the Memphis Wings after their relocation in the same year. In their first season, the team finished third in the Northern Division, in the 1968/69 season , in which the league was named Central Hockey League, the South Stars failed as fourth in the North Division to qualify for the playoffs for the Adams Cup . In both seasons, the Canadian John Muckler was the head coach of the South Stars.
For the 1969/70 season , the Memphis South Stars were relocated to Waterloo , Iowa , and then took part in the CHL's gaming operations under the name Iowa Stars .
