The Memphis Wings were an American ice hockey franchise of the Central Professional Hockey League based in Memphis , Tennessee .

history

The franchise of Cincinnati Wings of the Central Professional Hockey League became the season 1964/65 to Memphis, Tennessee, relocated and renamed Memphis Wings. The team was named after the Detroit Red Wings from the National Hockey League , whose farm team it was. In the three years of its existence, the Memphis Wings always occupied a midfield position in the Central Professional Hockey League and was finally relocated to Fort Worth , Texas , where the franchise was then active in the league under the name Fort Worth Wings .

The void the Wings left in the city was replaced by the Memphis South Stars in 1967 after the Minnesota North Stars from the NHL established their farm team in Memphis.
