The Birmingham South Stars were an American ice hockey franchise of the Central Hockey League based in Birmingham , Alabama .
history
The Birmingham South Stars began playing in the Central Hockey League for the 1982/83 season . They filled the void the Birmingham Bulls had left in the city a year earlier. The team was named after the Minnesota North Stars from the National Hockey League , whose farm team they were. In their only season, the team finished third in the CHL. In the subsequent playoffs for the Adams Cup , they first defeated the Colorado Flames with 4-2 wins in the best-of-seven series, before they were defeated in the final by the Indianapolis Checkers with 2-5 wins in seven games.
Since the Birmingham Bulls resumed play for the 1983/84 season as a franchise of the Atlantic Coast Hockey League , the Birmingham South Stars were dissolved.
