The Birmingham Bulls were an American ice hockey franchise of the Atlantic Coast Hockey League based in Birmingham , Alabama .

history

The Birmingham Bulls began playing in the Atlantic Coast Hockey League as an expansion team for the 1983/84 season . The team owners named the team after a team of the same name that had been active in Birmingham from 1976 to 1981. The team's funding failed at the start of the season, so that after only three games - two wins and one defeat - the team stopped playing on October 26, 1983. Head coach during this time was the American Dave Hanson , who had played for the Original Bulls in both the World Hockey Association and the Central Hockey League .

From 1992 to 2001 the tradition of the Birmingham Bulls was continued by another team of the same name from the East Coast Hockey League .
