The Troy Slapshots were an American ice hockey franchise of the Atlantic Coast Hockey League based in Troy , New York .

history

The New York Slapshots took up the 1985/86 season as an expansion team in the Atlantic Coast Hockey League . In their first season, the Slapshots were based on Staten Island and the Slapshots played all games away from home, as the planned construction of a stadium was initially delayed and finally stopped entirely. In their inaugural season, the Slapshots finished fifth and last in the league. The head coach of the team during this period was the Canadian Dave Schultz , who was active as a player in the National Hockey League for a long time . For the 1986/87 season , the franchise was finally relocated to Troy, New York, where it continued to play under the name Slapshots. The new head coach of the Slapshots was Joe Selenski . In Troy, the number of spectators was far too low to finance the team, so that the game was stopped after only six match days.
