The 1986/87 season was the sixth and final regular season of the Atlantic Coast Hockey League . During the regular season, the five teams were supposed to play 58 games each, but the schedule had to be changed due to the early, financially-conditioned departure of the Troy Slapshots . In the play-offs, the Virginia Lancers prevailed and won the Bob Payne Trophy for the first time in their club's history .
