history
The Hampton Roads Gulls took on the 1982/83 season as an expansion team to play in the Atlantic Coast Hockey League . The team owners named the team based on the Hampton Gulls , who were active in the American Hockey League and Southern Hockey League from 1974 to 1978 . In their only season, the Hampton Roads Gulls were only moderately successful and had to stop playing prematurely on February 2, 1983 for financial reasons. Nevertheless, the team managed to stay in the table before the Nashville South Stars , who played a total of 16 more games this season, but scored seven points less. The only coach during the existence of the team was the American Pat Donnelly .
