The local elections in Hesse in 2006 took place on March 26, 2006. With voter turnout at a historically low level, the CDU Hessen became the strongest communal force. The losses of the SPD Hessen were offset by gains from the free voter communities.

What to choose

Local councils are elected every five years in Hessen. This includes the election of the district councils , city ​​council assemblies and municipal councils as well as the local councils . Results

Of the record number of 4.53 million eligible voters, 45.8% went to the polls. This means that voter turnout, which in 2001 had already reached a historic low of 52.9%, fell again.
