Oren Koules (born January 31, 1961 in La Grange , Illinois ) is a former American ice hockey player and current official, as well as a film producer . He was best known for the film series Saw , which is produced by his production company.
Career
As a hockey player
Oren Koules began his career as a hockey player in the Canadian Junior Western Hockey League , where he was active from 1979 to 1982 for the Portland Winter Hawks , Great Falls Americans , Medicine Hat Tigers , Spokane Flyers , Calgary Wranglers and Brandon Wheat Kings . With the Great Falls Americans, who stopped playing early in their first season, he holds the record as the top scorer in franchise history with nine goals. Towards the end of the 1981/82 season , the winger also played a game for Saginaw Gears in the International Hockey League . The 1982/83 season he finally spent in the Atlantic Coast Hockey League with the Virginia Raiders and Hampton Roads Gulls (in which he played with the future NHL coach John Tortorella ), to a long-term professional career in one of the major ice hockey leagues it was enough but not, so that he then ended his career.
As a film producer
In 1998 Oren Koules and Mark Burg founded the company Evolution Entertainment , which produces TV films and series. Six years later, together with Burg and Gregg Hoffman, he founded the production company Twisted Pictures , which eventually took over the production of the successful Saw film series, in which he himself stood in front of the camera as an extra in two parts. Koules is also an executive producer on the comedy series Two and a Half Men . In 2007, Koules and his company partner Burg received the ShoWest Award in the Excellent Production category for the production of Saw . Other well-known films produced by Koules are Good Advice (2001) and Mrs. Winterbourne (1996).
For his participation in the film Dumm und Dumbererer , he and the other producers of the film received the negative award Golden Raspberry for the worst remake of the year in 2004 .
NHL team owner
In the summer of 2008, he and former Canadian ice hockey player Len Barrie acquired the rights to the NHL franchise of the Tampa Bay Lightning for about 206 million US dollars through the OK Hockey shareholder group , which he chaired . In 2010 OK Hockey sold the franchise to entrepreneur Jeff Vinnik.
