Dumm und Dumberer (Original title: Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd ) is an American comedy film from 2003 and also a prequel to the film Dumm und Dumberer from 1994. It was directed by Troy Miller , who co-produced the film and also wrote the script together with Robert Brener .
action
Harry Dunne is admitted to a public school after several years. There he meets the adopted Lloyd Christmas, with whom he befriends. Christmas is harassed by another student, Turk.
The school principal Collins sets up a special class for Dunne, Christmas and a few other students in order to trick the city council into funding. Jessica, who works for the school newspaper, does research. Collins is exposed and arrested, whereupon Dunne and Christmas are celebrated as heroes. They decide not to advertise Jessica in order not to endanger the friendship. Turk finds a friend, the exchange student Ching Chong.
In the end, Dunne and Christmas meet two young women who want to take their friends to a party. They argue briefly who should "take" which of the women and send both away.
Reviews
Mick LaSalle scoffed in the June 13, 2003 San Francisco Chronicle that the title sounds like a bad idea - the film itself removes any remaining doubts. It would be polite to call it a failure. Compared to the original film, it looks like an operation in which all of the patient's vital organs are removed in order to implant a third hand.
The lexicon of international films wrote that the film was "neither funny and original nor as consistently 'off the mark' as its predecessor, so that in every respect it appears as unimaginative as its title".
Cinema magazine wrote that the film was a “mindless copy” of the first comedy - “even dumber than the title suggests”. The "monkey antics" are "not nearly as subtle and funny" as the gags of the original film. It is also stupid "that the full admission price is still charged for this stupidity." The magazine advised “having the courage to have a video premiere” on the grounds that “this fun-free amateur barn has lost nothing in the cinema”.
Awards
Eric Christian Olsen and Derek Richardson were nominated for the Teen Choice Award in 2003 . In 2004, the film was nominated for the Golden Raspberry in the categories Worst Remake or Sequel , Worst Screen Couple and Worst Screenplay .
backgrounds
The film was shot in Atlanta and a few other locations in Georgia . The cost of production was 19 million US dollars estimated. The film grossed approximately $ 26.2 million in US cinemas.
Trivia
Shia LaBeouf auditioned for Lloyd Christmas and Josh Braaten for Harry Dunne. Both were not cast because, according to director Troy Miller , they would have been too "attractive" for these two characters; instead, they only got supporting roles.
