Moderator Wolf Blitzer

Initially, The Situation Room was divided into an hour for politics , an hour for security and an hour for international news . This concept was replaced on August 5, 2007 by a three-hour standard format in order to be able to adequately report on it a year before the US presidential election .

Blitzer moderator often receives support from journalists and commentators such as Jack Cafferty , Donna Brazile , Ali Velshi , Carol Costello , Abbi Tatton, Paul Begala , Bay Buchanan , James Carville and JC Watts .

The program begins with the standard words (or a slight variation): You're in the Situation Room - where news and information are arriving all the time. Standing by: CNN reporters across the United States and around the world to bring you the day's top stories. Happening Now ... I'm Wolf Blitzer, and You're in the Situation Room.

The Happening Now program reflects the main topics of the day and has been taken over from the most influential previous program, Wolf Blitzer Reports .

The show has been criticized for its so-called human interest stories , which present stories (behind messages) of people in an emotional or interactive way in order to arouse sympathy for them. Especially the satirist Jon Stewart made fun of the show for this reason. The program for the split screens during Hurricane Katrina was also criticized .
