Bay Buchanan

Angela Marie "Bay" Buchanan (born December 23, 1948 in Washington, DC ) is an American government official.

Private life

Angela Marie "Bay" Buchanan, daughter of nurse Catherine Elizabeth Crum and accountant William Baldwin Buchanan, was born about three years after the end of World War II . Nothing is known about her youth. She made her 1971 bachelor of science degree in mathematics at Rosemont College in Philadelphia ( Pennsylvania ) and 1973 its Master of Science at McGill University in Montreal ( Canada ). She later attended the University of New South Wales in Australia . In 1976 she joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints . Before that she was a Roman Catholic . In 1982 she married William Jackson, a district attorney from whom she later divorced. The couple had three children together: William (* 1983), Thomas (* 1984) and Stuart (* 1987).

Professional and political career

Buchanan served as national treasurer in the 1976 and 1980 primaries for the Ronald Reagan presidency, 1980 in the Ronald Reagan general election and 1984 in the general election of George HW Bush . After appearing regularly on CNN's Inside Politics newscast , she became a commentator for The Situation Room, and later Campbell Brown: No Bias, No Bull. She previously co-hosted Equal Time on CNBC and MSNBC . During that time she ran a two hour radio talk show .

At the age of 32, she was named Treasurer of the United States . President Reagan nominated her for the post on February 12, 1981, and the US Senate later confirmed her. Buchanan was the youngest person to hold this office. She served as Treasurer from March 20, 1981 to July 5, 1983, after which she chaired the President's Commission on Women Business Owners.

Buchanan managed her brother Pat Buchanan's three unsuccessful presidential nominations .

In 1988 she co-chaired the California delegation to the Republican National Convention and the Defense Subcommittee of the Party Platform Committee. In 1980 she ran in the Republican primary against incumbent Thomas W. Hayes for the post of Treasurer of California. Hayes won the primaries but lost to Democrat Kathleen Brown .

In May 2006 she was named chairman of Team America PAC , a political action committee founded by Tom Tancredo . In 2007 she chaired the Tancredo presidential campaign. She then became a Senior Advisor to Mitt Romney .

After the 2012 presidential election , she became a licensed real estate agent in Virginia and works for McEnearney Associates.
