Thomas Tudor Tucker (born June 25, 1745 in Bermuda , †  May 2, 1828 in Washington, DC ) was an American doctor and politician . He represented the state of South Carolina in the Continental Congress and House of Representatives of the United States . Later he was Treasurer of the United States until his death .

Life

Tucker studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland and then emigrated to South Carolina. There he practiced and was also a military doctor in the Continental Army . He was captured on May 12, 1780 after Benjamin Lincoln surrendered in Charleston.

He was a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives in 1776, 1782–1783, 1785 and 1787–1788, the Continental Congress in 1787 and 1788. Tucker was elected to represent South Carolina in the first and second United States Congresses. His mandate lasted from March 4, 1789 to March 3, 1793.

US President Thomas Jefferson named Tucker Treasurer of the United States , making him the third-highest position in the Treasury . The term of office began on December 1, 1801 and ended with Tucker's death on May 2, 1828.
