James H. Goss

James Hamilton Goss (born August 9, 1820 in Union , Union County , South Carolina , †  October 31, 1886 ) was an American politician . Between 1868 and 1869 he represented the state of South Carolina in the US House of Representatives .

Career

James Goss attended public schools in his home country including the Union Male Academy . After that he became active in the trade. During the Civil War he served as a soldier in the South Carolina State Militia. After the war he became a member of the Republican Party . In 1867 he was a delegate to a meeting to revise the state constitution of South Carolina.

After South Carolina was readmitted to Congress , he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in 1868 as a candidate for his party's fourth constituency in South Carolina . There he took up his new mandate on July 18, 1868. By March 3, 1869 he ended the current legislative period there. In the regular congressional elections of 1868, Goss decided not to run again.

Between 1871 and 1874 Goss was a member of the Union County Board of Commissioners . He then worked from 1875 to 1884 as a postman in his hometown Union. James Goss died on October 31, 1886 in Union and was buried there.
