Robert Marion

Robert Marion (born 1766 in Berkeley District , Province of South Carolina , † March 22, 1811 in St. Stephen's Parish , South Carolina ) was an American politician . Between 1805 and 1810 he represented the state of South Carolina in the US House of Representatives .

Career

The exact date of birth of Robert Marion is unknown. He received a good primary education and then studied at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia until 1784 . He then ran a plantation in Belle Isle . He also worked as a justice of the peace.

Marion was a member of the House of Representatives from South Carolina between 1790 and 1796 . From 1802 to 1805 he was a member of the State Senate . He was a member of the Democratic Republican Party founded by President Thomas Jefferson and was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in 1804 as its candidate in the first constituency of South Carolina . There he took over from Thomas Lowndes on March 4, 1805 . After two re-elections, he could remain in Congress until his resignation on December 4, 1810 .

Robert Marion died just months after his resignation as Congressman on March 22, 1811 on his plantation in St. Stephen's Parish.
