John McQueen

John McQueen (born February 9, 1804 in Maxton , Robeson County , North Carolina , †  August 30, 1867 in Society Hill , South Carolina ) was an American politician ( Democratic Party ) who represented the state of South Carolina in the US House of Representatives and represented in the Confederate Congress .

John McQueen received his private tutoring and then enrolled at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill . After graduating there, he studied law , was inducted into the bar in 1828, and began practicing in Bennettsville, South Carolina. From 1833 to 1837 he served in the state militia.

In 1844, McQueen first unsuccessfully applied for a seat in Congress . After the death of MP Alexander D. Sims , he then decided the by-election for himself and moved into the House of Representatives in Washington on February 12, 1849 . He stayed there until his resignation on December 21, 1860.

After the outbreak of the Civil War , McQueen was also politically active in the Confederation . He was elected to the House of Representatives at the First Confederate Congress, of which he was a member from 1862 to 1864.
