Elias Earle

Elias Earle (born June 19, 1762 in Frederick County , Colony of Virginia , †  May 19, 1823 in Centerville , South Carolina ) was an American politician . Between 1805 and 1821 he represented the state of South Carolina in the US House of Representatives several times .

Career

Elias Earle was the uncle of Congressmen Samuel and John B. Earle, and the grandfather of US Senator John LM Irby . He enjoyed a private education. In September 1787, he moved to Greenville County , South Carolina. There he worked in iron processing. At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Democratic Republican Party . Between 1794 and 1797 he was a member of the House of Representatives from South Carolina . In 1800 he was a member of the State Senate .

In the congressional elections of 1804 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the eighth constituency of South Carolina , where he succeeded his nephew John on March 4, 1805. He represented this district until March 3, 1807 only for one legislative period in Congress . In the elections of 1810 he was re-elected to the US House of Representatives in the eighth district. There he replaced Lemuel J. Alston , who had been his successor two years earlier. Between 1813 and 1815 and again from 1817 to 1821 Earle represented the seventh district of his state in Congress. In total, he completed five legislative terms between 1805 and 1821. During this time, the British-American War of 1812 took place .
