James F. Izlar

James Ferdinand Izlar (born November 25, 1832 in Orangeburg , Orangeburg County , South Carolina , † May 26, 1912 ibid) was an American politician . Between 1894 and 1895 he represented the state of South Carolina in the US House of Representatives .

Career

James Izlar attended the public schools of his home country and then until 1855 the Emory College in Oxford ( Georgia ). After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1858, he began to practice in his new profession. During the Civil War , Izlar was an officer in the Confederate Army . After the war he worked as a lawyer in Orangeburg.

Politically, Izlar joined the Democratic Party . Between 1880 and 1890 he was a member of the South Carolina Senate . In 1884 he was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Chicago , where Grover Cleveland was nominated as a presidential candidate. In 1889, he was appointed a judge in the South Carolina First Judicial District.

After the resignation of Congressman William H. Brawley , Izlar was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the due by-election in the first constituency of South Carolina . There he ended between April 12, 1894 and March 3, 1895 the current legislative period of his predecessor. In the regular congressional elections of 1894, Izlar decided not to run again. In the following years he worked again as a lawyer in Orangeburg. He retired in 1907. He died on May 26, 1912 in his home town of Orangeburg and was buried there.
